Barcelona weather: Planning your trip

When planning a trip to an unfamiliar or new destination, there are always questions about the weather. If you’re travelling to the Catalan capital, what weather should you be prepared for? When is the best time of year to go? The answer to the first question is that you should always be prepared for good, mild weather. The answer to the second question is a matter of taste and all times of the year have their charm. If forced to answer, though, many Barcelona residents would probably choose the spring. This time of year it is just warm enough to take a dip in the ocean at one of the city’s many beaches, enjoy the dozens of local and international festivals and walk around comfortably in sandals and t-shirts.

Those of us who live in Barcelona know that it is good weather year round. The vast majority of days are filled with sunlight and have a nice temperature. Like most countries in the northern hemisphere, it is colder in the winter and hotter in the summer. It rains occasionally, of course, but not very often. Barcelona is definited by its Mediterranean climate with all its benefits. If you are coming to Barcelona for a few days, there are a few trustworthy sources to see the predicted weather during your trip. AMET, the state-run weather agency, and AccuWeather are both good websites to see what weather is like, but a more interesting option is checking the webcams around the city to see with your own eyes what the climate is like. A great way to get a live view of Barcelona is through the City Council’s traffic camera feeds – you can see 20 different areas of the city via its main traffic arteries. The two best for visitors would probably be the famous Passeig de Gràcia, where Gaudi’s Casa Battlo and La Pedrera are found, and Plaça Catalunya, the entry to the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas. These popular tourist attractions are great places to enjoy the city’s fantastic weather! We hope that this information is useful to you while planning your visit to Barcelona, helping you figure out what exactly you should have in your suitcase when visiting the city any time of the year. If it were in our hands, you would always have the typical Mediterranean sunshine that makes Barcelona so special!
