Artist Martin Parr (1952-) is a “documentary photographer” and he covers the more domestic aspects of modern life. A member of the Magnum Agency, the prestigious photographers cooperative, Parr´s exhibit “Souvenir” is on display here in Barcelona at the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (Centro de Cultura Contemporánea or CCCB +34 933 06 41 00 Calle Montalegre, 5 in El Raval ) until the 21st of October in all of its casual, colorful brilliance. The CCCB has gathered Parr´s work on the subject of tourism. The photographic series “kitsch” is especially poignant and full of unusual, humorous compositions that emphasize the importance of photography in remembering one´s travels. For the exhibit, Parr has prepared 50 pieces on Barcelona itself, aptly titled “Barcelona”, he captures the essence of theaqua touristic experience in the city in a way that the typical postcard has never been able to. Chuckle an hour or two away with Parr´s work at CCCB until the 21st of October and become part of the work itself: if you bring a souvenir, not only can you enter the exhibit for free, but you can swap your item for another as part of the piece “Souvenir Crossing”.
