Open-air cinema: Sala Monjuïc Barcelona Under the Sky

What’s better than enjoying a good movie in the summer? Doing it outdoors under the beautiful Barcelona sky.

From 3 July to 7 August Barcelona is celebrating the 13th edition of the Sala Monjuïc Open Air Cinema. This is one of the most anticipated film events among cinema lovers in Barcelona. The organization has prepared a selection of history’s best films in its original form, with Spanish subtitles. Along with movies, the open-air cinema features concerts, master classes, guided tours through the Monjuïc castle, eco-picnics and much more.

The movie room opens at 20:30, the concerts start at 20:45 and the projections start at 22h. Remember to be in time to grab a good seat 😉

The open-air cinema offers a repertoire of great variety with some famous titles like “Cinema Paradiso”, “Reservoir Dogs” and “Her.”

The Sala Monjuïc is located in the maginificent Monjuïc Castle (Ctra. De Monjuïc, 66), in the Santa Eulalia pit. The organization is providing a free bus service that is running between Plaza España and the castle. The bus stop will be at the corner of the Paral·lel avenue and Maria Cristina, next to the Tourist Information Point. The service to the castle is running between 21:15 until 21:30, and back once the movie is finished, so you have no excuses to miss these magical nights.

The open-air cinema of Sala Monjuïc is a pefect event to enjoy a night with family, friends or your partner. You can settle on the grass with your own picnic, bring your own chairs and enjoy the nice, soft temperature up at the castle. If you’re not exactly the picnic type, don’t worry. There is a special “chiringuito” (a typical hut on the beach) named “El Merendero del Seco“, installed for an eco-picnic offering fantastic dishes like movie Burgers, Hummos or homemade cakes. Furthermore, there are chairs for rent (3€) to make you feel at home during the Barcelona night.

The entry costs 6€ which includes the projection of the movie and a concert. If you also want to visit the Monjuïc castle you can buy the “Movie + guided tour” pack for 10€. And finally, if you are passionate about the world of film, the organization offers you the “CineClub de Sala Monjuïc”, a space to learn more and debate about the films being showed in the cinema. This pack called “entry + masterclass” is also being offered for 10€.

We recommend that you buy your tickets before your visit to avoid the queues at the cinema itself.
