Open-air cinema: Sala Monjuïc Barcelona Under the Sky

What’s better than enjoying a good movie in the summer? Doing it outdoors under the beautiful Barcelona sky.
From 2 July to 6 August Barcelona is celebrating the 2021 edition of the Sala Monjuïc Open Air Cinema. This is one of the most anticipated film events among cinema lovers in Barcelona. Due to the COVID19 situation, this year the seating capacity will be between 50% and 60%, so you will have to hurry up, because if generally the tickets are sold really quick, this year they are getting sold out even more.
The organization is maintaining the essence of each summer, with a selection of recent international hits, such as ‘Joker’, ‘Parasites’ and ‘Nomadland’ mixed with classics such as ‘Breakfast at Diamonds’. The last film of the season will be a surprise. All the films are shown in its original form, with Spanish subtitles.
Along with movies, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the open-air cinema features a diferent concert. This year there will be a great variety of genres, but the African rhythms are going to stand out, as a result of the collaboration with the Grec Festival, which in this edition has turned its eyes towards Africa.
The movie room opens at 20:00, the concerts start at 20:45 and the projections start at 22h. Remember that you have to arrive at latest at 21:45h.
The open-air cinema offers a repertoireof great variety with some famous titles like “Jojo Rabbit”, “Invictus” and “City of God.”
The Sala Monjuïc is located in the maginificent Monjuïc Castle (Ctra. De Monjuïc, 66), in the Santa Eulalia pit. You can get there by car, on foot, by bicycle or take bus 150. There will be a special minimum bus service to Plaza España once the movie is finished, since at that time the regular lines no longer work. Also there are parking areas near the Montjuïc Castle, so you have no excuses to miss these magical nights!
The open-air cinema of Sala Monjuïc is a pefect event to enjoy a night with family, friends or your partner. You can settle on the grass with your own picnic, bring your own chairs and enjoy the nice, soft temperature up at the castle. If you’re not exactly the picnic type, don’t worry. There is a bar and restaurant service, that will bring organic and local food offering fantastic dishes like pizza with fluffy and crunchy dough made with organic flour, fried chips cone served in crunchy wedges and with homemade sauces and their home-made hummus served with fried corn chips, a handful of chickpeas and paprika, a classic of cool movie nights!
Furthermore, for an extra 3€, you can buy a ticket that includes a chair to make you feel at home during the Barcelona night.
The entry costs 7,5 € which includes the projection of the movie and a concert.
We recommend that you buy your tickets as soon as possible since this year the tickets will be only available on their website and there will be no tickets available at Montjuïc cinema.
