Looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day? Romantic getaway in Madrid

Are you looking for a gift for your loved one that will last in your memories forever? When it comes to Valentine’s Day, we are sure that the best present to give one another is to spend some valuable time together. We live in a fast and sometimes stressful world where quality time and unforgettable moments can become your best gift!

And we cannot think of a better experience than a romantic getaway trip with your half to a city full of history, palatial gardens and beautiful sunsets. This February 14th, we bring you our best picks to celebrate love in Madrid. There’s no better place to be!

A romantic stroll & picnic

Royal Palace and Sabatini Gardens, Madrid

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to walk and enjoy each other’s company while taking a stroll among a romantic landscape of nature, outstanding palaces and fountains.

Madrid has so many parks to visit for all nature lovers that you can’t miss the opportunity to relax in one of our city’s incredible green areas and to get away the city hustle and bustle. Get lost exploring the endless Retiro Park and surprise your partner renting a small boat at the pond, then go to visit the magical Crystal Palace, the park best kept secret.

Other beautiful options are the magnetic Debod Temple or the imperial Sabatini Gardens, next to Madrid Royal Palace. With a design influenced by the era of Romanticism, you will find a beautiful rectangular pond surrounded by fountains and statues, where you will feel like a prince/princess!

To round off your romantic stroll, forget about fancy restaurants and finish with a picnic: Get a bottle of wine with two glasses and prepare some home-made sandwiches and snacks that can become the most special meal for both.

Whichever garden you choose, your date will surely be impressed! Keep reading to learn about the best parks to visit in Madrid.

De Madrid al Cielo (From Madrid to Heaven)

Views of Gran Vía Street, Madrid

This is a widely used proverb to refer to Madrid, as a lively and charming city, where you can have a great time. It is not known exactly where the saying came from, but what everyone agrees is that legends aside, Madrid’s sky has a very special colour and when it is a little cloudy, the views are just spectacular!

In order to see Madrid from above, take Madrid’s Teleferic and enjoy some exciting views while being 40 meters above the ground! Get ready for a romantic route from up high with unbeatable views of the city, including the Royal Palace and Debod Temple, which make it a worthwhile route.

After our little adventure, make sure you reach our next stop before sunset if you don’t want to miss outstanding sky colours. So head to the rooftop at Círculo de Bellas Artes. Founded in 1880 by a small group of artists, this building has been declared a national historic-artistic monument, due to its great architectural value.

Our favourite part of the Círculo de Bellas Artes is Azotea del Círculo, the restaurant on the rooftop of the building, and a trendy and very popular spot with incredible views over Madrid. This stunning landscape goes from the city’s iconic Gran Vía below to the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range. But let’s not forget about the food! Small tapas dishes and raciones designed by chef Manuel Berganza including Veal fricassee, Tuna tartare, Creamy boletus croquettes or Stuffed artichokes with sobrassada and honey.
