Plans for Easter

This “holy week” is a time full of traditions and events in Spain. Use these days to plan a getaway. We’ll give you a few tips so that you can enjoy and get to know the story of this holiday.

Gastronomy: different typical products are made during this holiday. Mainly sweets and pastries. Among the delights that you can taste these days are try pestiños, torrijas, or fried milk. In Madrid, we recommend you visit “LaDuquesita“, a centuries-old patisserie where you can taste some of the best sweets Madrid has to offer. You can also eat typical dishes of these dates such as cod fritters and shrimp omelette.

Processions: during the Holy week various processions with sacred images will take place. In Barcelona the majority of them take place on Good Friday. In addition to the one held in the Catalan capital, the processions in Hospitalet de Llobregat are also very famous and attract up to a million people. In Madrid, Easter is also experienced intensely. In addition to the traditional processions, parallel cultural events are held. For example, concerts of sacred music in churches and basilicas.

Monas de Pascua: in Catalonia it’s a tradition that the godparents give their godchildren this typical sweet. Barcelona becomes, during the days of Holy week, the capital of chocolate. The windows of bakeries are filled with spectacular monas. There are ribbons for all tastes, from more traditional forms, such as snails, fish, chickens, and other animals, until characters from cartoons or shields of soccer teams. We recommend you visit Escribà pastry that has been doing cute handcrafted since 1906.
