Santa Eulalia Cathedral

Located in the centre of the city, the cathedral is a beautiful gothic-style temple named after the patron saint of Barcelona. It consists of three naves, of which the central nave is the largest one.
The building process of the current basicila started over the foundations of a Roman and later Visigoth site in 1298, under the reign of James II and would last three centuries. The building of the current façade remained unfinished until the end of the 19th century when the architects J. O. Mestres and August Font I Carreras resumed and concluded the construction, based on a drawing left by Mestre Carli in the 15th century.
The interior of the cathedral displays a beautiful cloister and a wooden choir craved with blazons of the 15th century. Under the main altar you can find the crypt whith the Santa Eulalia's sarcophagus. The main nave has 28 side chapels and an arched ceiling of more than 26 meters tall.
An elevator installed in 1995 takes you up to the roof so you can enjoy wonderful views over the old city.
