Picasso Museum

The Picasso Museum is one of the places you must visit in Barcelona. It is located in the Montcada Street, considered by noble salesmen as the main street of the heart of the Ribera neighbourhood. It is composed of five small mediaeval palaces, all with their own inner courtyard, character and history.
The museum opened in 1963. Picasso’s dear friend and secretary Jaime Sabartes donated the first works of the artist born in Malaga, and is also portrayed in one of the most famous paintings on display. Later, Picasso himself bequeathed numerous paintings and engravings. In 1982 Jacqueline, his second widow, also gave fourty pottery works. One year afterwards the heirs donated 117 engravings.
The permanent collection covers his education years with more than 3.500 essential works that help to understand Picasso's creative genius. One of the most famous series you can watch is the one about “Las Meniñas”, based on painting by Velazquez from 1656, as well as the works from the blue period.
The museum opens from Monday to Sunday, from 10h to 20h.
