What to do along Las Ramblas

One of the most popular and busiest tourist attractions throughout the year in Barcelona is, without a doubt, Las Ramblas.  This pleasant 1.3 kilometer long promenade connects Plaza Cataluña with the old port of the city. During your stroll along Las Ramblas you will enjoy a historic place unlike any other part of the city. We have decided to make a small recount of the most peculiar things that will surprise you during your visit to this peculiar street.

La Boquería

In the Boqueria, Barcelona’s most famous market, you can taste and buy fresh produce and enjoy its aromas and colors. For almost 200 years, peasants used to meet here to sell their products to traders. Today it is a must-see for anyone visiting Barcelona, with an area of 2583 m² and more than 300 stalls.

Palau Güell

This is the luxurious house of the Güell family that was built in 1886 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. Here, you will see the work of a young Gaudí, in his early days, as a master of building design. Our advice: go out on the roof and get lost in the magical forest of its colorful chimneys.

Liceu Theater

It was created in 1847 and has been the stage, for more than 150 years, of the most prestigious plays, performed by the best singers in the world. For decades, it has been a symbol and meeting place for the Catalan aristocracy and bourgeoisie. Today, there are sessions for all types of audiences, including families with young children, and special discounts so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy culture in this historic theater.

Wax Museum

This building of neoclassical architecture houses a collection of more than 150 wax figures and 28 different scenes from the art and history of mankind. In 2020, it was renovated, being now much more modernized and improved. You will find interior spaces with the latest audiovisual, lighting and digital technology that will allow you to live a unique interactive experience in Barcelona. On the other hand, next to the museum is El Bosc de les Fades, a charming café and cocktail bar with a magical atmosphere that you can not miss.

Miro’s mosaic

On Las Ramblas there is also a spectacular circular tile mosaic by the great Miró.  It is located very close to the Teatre del Liceu. That is why those who want to get there can do so by metro, getting off at the station of the same name. The Catalan artist was born a few minutes away from this point, and that is why this mosaic, a universal symbol of totality and perfection, was also installed there.

Living statues

On your walk along this street, you will be surrounded by many artists who wait motionless until they receive a small monetary contribution. Dare to leave them a coin, and they will surprise you with some gesture or grimace. The mimes that flood Las Ramblas represent from famous people to strange creatures.

Now, pack your bags and come to discover everything we have told you. And if you want to stay close to this iconic street, our Las Ramblas Apartments are perfect for you, as well as our other fully equipped apartments in Barcelona. Make your reservation!
