Founded in 1966, the International Jazz Festival of Barcelona has managed to be a very important item on the world music calendar. The personalities and most important artists of the jazz world come at the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona with the intention to promote and express their love and passion for Jazz music.

Festival history

The Palau de la Música Catalana hosted the first concert of the International Jazz Festival of Barcelona in November 1966. The pianist Dace Brubeck and his quartet delighted the audience with their music, made their mark and established a brand that endures over the years of the festival’s history.

Since then, Barcelona has remained true to this important event offering the audience the strength and magic of jazz.In the musical program of the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona famous names are participating, like Dexter Gordon, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Sony Rollins, Kimmy Smith and many others.

Since 1989, Barcelona took the reins of the project and is responsible for promoting and organizing the festival. In addition, to complement the musical program during the past editions the city decided to hold parallel activities such conferences, film screenings and even exhibitions all around the world of Jazz.

As an important finding of the latest editions we can note that the Voll-Damm brand became the main sponsor of the festival in 2002. Hence its current name.
