¡Vive La Mercè! Barcelona City Festival 2012 with Aspasios

Barcelona is all dressed up to impress, once again. It is already the “Fiesta de la Mercè”, or the city festival of Barcelona (known as Fiesta Major in Catalan), originating in the Medieval festival of the Virgin Mary of Grace (“Mare de Déu de la Mercè). Nothing we describe here can come close to actually experiencing these festival days for yourself! From the 21st to 24th of September, the streets and plazas of the city descend into a frenzy of music, plays, picnics, castellers (human towers), and groups of people setting off fireworks in traditional garb (correfoc), and thousands of spectators.

To make the most of this time, Aspasios recommends taking an apartment in the Eixample, where you are close to the festivities.

From Monday to Friday, the typical stay in Barcelona is transformed into a magical, otherworldly experience. Giants, dragons, and castles abound for your enjoyment. The festivities are centered around Ciutadella Park and the Sagrada Familia, where performers and artists from the invited guest city, Montreal this year, will gather to entertain visitors and residents of Barcelona. Aspasios would love to be your key to the city during this special time. Bid farewell to the summer in the most memorable way possible with one of our apartments. Welcome to La Mercè 2012!
