Autumn in Catalunya

This is a such a lovely time to be in Catalonia.

The leaves are turning as autumn gets going and produces some amazing colours. The chestnut trees are dropping their chestnuts and it is traditional to cook them over an open fire, or there are castañeras on some street corners cooking chestnuts and boniatos for a true fast food fix.

Mushroom season is in full swing; the locals head out of town on the weekend to their favourite (secret) spot and collect the bolets and girgolas and tens of other fungi that sunshine after rain brings, and the restaurants are full of special plates. Confused as to which are good to eat and which are poisonous? The local townfolk will set you straight and there are still some pharmacies/chemists that will sort the good from the bad.

The weather is not hot yet not cold, so it’s best to leave the house dressed in layers and if you’re lucky you’ll get down to a teeshirt during the day.

The Christmas decorations are going up. Love it or hate it, it’s that time when the streets are hung with some incredible lights that get lit from December 1st onwards. And there’s that special feeling that Christmas isn’t too far off; plans are made, the shops are full, and the kids are getting excited.

And the added bonus is that we’re out of the summer high season so prices have fallen. At Aspasios we have some great deals available and you generally don’t need to book months in advance. We’ve got some gorgeous family suites right in the centre of Barcelona if you’re after a serviced apartment suite, just a few blocks from the excitement of Paseo de Gracia and the shops of the Eixample Izquerra.
