Madrid is a fantastic city for shopping. You will find everything you could want from mainstream highstreet shops to high-end boutiques and designer stores.
Between Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía you will find a pedestrianised area full of high street clothes and shoe shops. You will find plenty of brands and names you recognise here. This also happens to be the home of the original El Corte Inglés (a huge Spanish department store).
If you are keen to shop in local shops where you will find hand-crafted items and clothes then Austrias is the area to head for. This is situated behind Plaza Mayor. You will find glass painting, woodworking and ironmongery among other local crafts here. Regardless of whether you choose to buy anything, it’s a lovely part of the city to stroll around – don’t forget your camera.
For designer clothing stores and boutiques head straight to the Salamanca district. Chanel, Gucci, D&G, Prada….it’s all to be found here. If you enjoy browsing for vintage clothes and one off-pieces then Calle Fuencarral is the best place to head for.
The Spanish capital no doubt one of the best cities in Europe for shopping so if you are soon to be visiting, enjoy!
