If you are going to be visiting Madrid before Christmas then you are in for a a treat!
The first thing you will notice are the stunning displays of Christmas lights that adorn the streets throughout the city. Every year one of Spain’s best designers is allocated the task of creating a magical, twinkling display. With the lights in place you will most certainly want to take a leisurely stroll around the city.
A great place to stop by is the market held in Plaza Mayor. During the Christmas period the stalls sell Christmas decorations, gifts and food and is definitely a wonderful place to get into the Christmas spirit. Additionally other craft markets spring up around the city such as those in Jacinot Benavente, Santa Cruz and Plaza de Espana. You will find fancy dress costumes here as well as all the usual Christmas fare.
Both adults and kids will love the temporary ice rinks that are set up in Plaza de Santa Maria Soledad Torres and Acosta. The former even has a section where you can go sledging. The latter is free to children under twelve and is set up beneath an enormous tree with a huge glass star perched on top.
There is a lot to enjoy in Madrid over the Christmas period so make sure you have fun!
