From 11th June until 17th June Barcelona Bike Week is taking place. You don’t need a bike to participate as you can rent one for free from Biciclot Maritim found on the beach front promenade in the area Barceloneta.
If you do own a bike in the city you can have it checked over in the Plaza Carles Pi i Sunyer 8-10. The bike checks are being held every day. There are in fact 40 bike related activities taking place during this fun week in the Spanish city.
If you fancy having a go on cycle tour or like the idea of biking around the city for a few hours then make sure you find a way to get involved. There is even a night bike tour scheduled called “Bicicletada nocturna.” The week long event ends with the Festa de la Bici, a bike and skate party that involves a ride through the city. To take part you can borrow a bike from the junction of Plaza Catalunya and Calle Bergera. It is advisable to get there early however as the bikes tend to get snapped up pretty fast!
Barcelona introduced their wonderful “Bicing” service a few years back. Modelled on the successful Parisian service, there are hundreds of spots around the city where with the swipe of a card you can grab a fun red bike. Unfortunately this service is not yet available for tourists; you need a Spanish identity card and an application will take a few weeks to process. Hopefully this will be rolled out in the future.
