On 26th November the must anticipated Fira de Santa Lluscia will open in Barcelona. This Christmas fair held every year in Barcelona is a true Christmas institution and a well established entry in the Christmas in Barcelona calendar. It was first held in 1786 and is comprised of over over 300 market stalls selling an all manner of Christmas goodies and treats. There are plenty of Christmas decorations available to purchase as well as gifts, crafts and more.
The Fira de Santa Llucia runs this year from 26th November to 22nd December and is held outside the Barcelona Cathedral. Anyone visiting this Spanish city during this period should not miss out on this exciting annual event. All the local residents use this Christmas fair to prepare for Christmas. As well as stalls selling seasonal items there are also musical parades that take place during the fair and exhibitions too.
One of the most popular events at the fair is the giant caga tió, a Spanish version of the traditional Mexican piñanta. The smiley faced log drops out presents and sweeties when it is hit with sticks by children. Smaller versions of the caga tió are available for sale at the fair too as many Spanish families enjoy this activity in their homes over the Christmas period.
If you are going to be visiting Barcelona over the next few weeks, don’t miss out on a visit to this traditional Christmas fair. It is fantastic fun for all the family and a great place to get some Christmas shopping done too.

Entiendo que la fira empezó hace dos dias.
