Any member of the European Community has the right to be treated in Spain by any public health service if he is carrying the E111 form or his EU Social Security Card. Nevertheless, a private health insurance hired before the departure can be far more convenient, especially in non-urgent situations. Such insurances often give both financial protection in the case of loss or theft of cash or valuables and also they cover medical expenses. Normally visitors from non-EU countries will always receive emergency treatment (not always for free), but it is advisable to hire some health insurance in advance. In case of a medical emergency, you should visit the emergency area of any large hospital. They are open 24 hours a day. These three hospitals are the most important ones: Hospital Clínic Villaroel, 170 93 227 54 00 metro Hospital Clinic (línea azul L5) Hospital del Mar Paseo Marítimo, 25-29 93 248 30 00 metro Ciudadella (línea amarilla L2) Hospital Vall d’Hebron Passeig Vall d'Hebron 119 - 129 934 893 000 Metro Vall d’Hebron (línea verde L3) |
